Clothes

If you’re anything like me, you’re keeping your wallet close to you and your pennies pinched. The latest issue of Cosmopolitan magazine has found women like you and I seven “ridiculously” good deals and I have to share them. It’d be mean not to!

1. Forever21.com – patent bag – $26.80 (I think the only bag I’ve ever paid that much for was the bag I use daily, a wardrobe staple. Not something red and patent leather!)

2. VSPink.com – printed sundresses – $54.50 (My favorite dress I paid about that much for at the Gap. I’ve worn it at least fifty times and it’s classic and gorgeous and worth it. This dress might be a little to “stylish” for wearing it fifty times, but if you’ve got a penchant for florals, go for it!)

3. OldNavy.com – floral shirts – $24.50 (I love the bright colors … but they really really really remind me of my Grams and some of her old shirts. I don’t know that I could do it.)

4. kiraplastinina.com – hot pink skirt – $39 (Yeah, um, no thanks. I’m so not cool enough for a hot skirt! Also, even with a year of Russian under my belt I couldn’t find this skirt on their website.)

5. walmart.comcolorful jeans from L.e.i. – $20 (No. Please don’t. Please? Pretty please? I’m sharing these things because people like them, obviously, but SERIOUSLY? No one should be wearing yellow denim.)

6. kmart.com – striped blouses – $16.99 (I LOVE this shirt. I want to go to KMart and find this shirt today – it’s that cute, and THAT cheap!)

7. payless.com – gladiator sandals – $38 (1. Gladiator sandals? Really? 2) $38 at Payless? Not quite my idea of cheap.)

Running Gear

Boardwalk Runner
Image by San Diego Shooter via Flickr

I’m not allowed to start running until April 28th. That will be six weeks post-surgery, and I am already counting down because sitting on my bum (at least until the 14th) is killing me. I’ve resorted to looking lustfully at new running gear even though on the 28th, I’ll be putting on my favorite pair of Saucony‘s (Grid Fusion 2 – although I will need a new pair soon and may spring for a the ProGrid Hurricane 10) and busting out the hot shorts to take off on a GENTLE run. Yes Dr. Surgeon, I will run gently at first. Promise.

Until then I lust.
*lucy’s impact knee pants
*Nike‘s Dri-FIT Cold/Wind Women’s Running Vest
*Nike’s Dri-FIT Soft Hand Long-Sleeve Women’s Running Baselayer
*UnderArmour‘s Achieve “Mid” Short (mine are falling apart because I wear them under all my workout shorts!)

What kind of workout gear are you lusting after?

Free fitness socks from lucy!

One of my favorite stores for fitness clothes is lucy. “We all know that when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you go the extra mile. So at lucy, our passion is to design fashion forward performance apparel that inspires athletic women like you.”

Not only does the fitness gear at lucy fit fantastically, support well, and cover a wide range of activities, it looks good on you, too! lucy designers don’t only work to create gear that serves a logical purpose, they design clothes with feminine details, colors and styles which make you love putting on your workout gear.

Right now, lucy is offering a free two-pack of performance socks with this printable coupon. All you have to do is carry it into the store, pick out your socks and wander to the register. I dare you not to find something else that you adore while you’re there, though.

Good luck keeping your hands off the lucy everyday pant – I have one pair that I will wear until they literally fall off my behind. My favorite pair of running shorts is the lucy front runner short. I have never had to pick my wedgie as I run in these, and I’ve been whistled at on more than one occasion. (And it has to be because of the shorts!) My next lucy purchase is going to be one of their long-sleeved zip up tops. The shirring on the ideal resort jacket draws me in each time I see it, and I think I’ve tried it on at least a half-dozen times while in the store.

One thing that lucy is well known for, that many women don’t realize, is their fantastic selection of sports bras. The Enell sports bra that lucy offers has been rated one of the best sports bras for women with large breasts by Sports Illustrated Women. With sizes ranging from 32C to 50DDD, the Enell bra is “the ultimate sports bra for well endowed women – you won’t move an inch.” Runner’s World “guarantee[s] that your breasts won’t bounce in this bra. It fits so snugly that many women assume they need a larger size. The extra-wide straps and back cover more area and offer more support.”

To find a lucy store near you, check their location finder and remember to bring your free sock coupon!!

Keeping your purse clean

Just yesterday I talked about the fact that women put their purses in some pretty gross spots. Don’t say you’re not guilty! How many times have you set your purse on the kitchen counter? The floor of a restaurant? The toilet paper holder in a bathroom stall? The public restroom floor even?

There is a solution to keeping the bottoms of your purse cleaner, though. They’re generally referred to as purse hooks, purse keepers or purse hangers. While I don’t own any myself, I really want one now that I’ve found a whole bunch of them online! (If you want me to review your purse hanger, please let me know and we’ll get something going!)

Port de Bras

Need help with your posture? Try doing some Port de Bras – an often utilized dance move to stretch and lengthen your spine!

Stand with your heels touching and your toes turned out.
Brace your abs.
Keeping your shoulders down, raise both arms overhead.
Bend forward, reaching your hands toward your toes while keeping your back flat.
Go only as far as you can without losing your form.
Brace your abs again, stand up, and, with arms still raised, arch backward slightly.
Repeat up to 8 times.

Tips for women with waists

Button-fly belly

Short-waisted women:
Do you frequently tuck your shirts into your pants? Get pants with lower rises then to lower your waistline.
Wear a bra. Even better? Wear a supportive bra. Keeping your breasts where they should be emphasizes your waist.
Buying longer tops draws your waistline lower.
When wearing a belt, opt for a narrow one, push it below the natural waist just a bit and match it to your shirt color – all tips to elongate your torso.

Long-waisted women:
Wear V-neck tops
Try jackets with curved hems rather than straight ones, they’ll cut you off less.
Narrow skirts with tapered sides will make your legs look longer, so will raised waistlines with a belt that matches your pants color.
Heels! Making your legs look longer with shoes is easy!

BTW – This has everything to do with health. Women feel their best when they look their best!
